    • There seems to be lots of issues about this none of which helped me to fix my issue.

Context

youtube-dl version is 2020.03.24

I am trying to download content from a playlist https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAqlaNzxkdyZ4y0SLlyskPE8-BRgf6CPe where using youtube-dl --extract-audio https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAqlaNzxkdyZ4y0SLlyskPE8-BRgf6CPe results in:

ERROR: No video formats found; please report this issue on https://yt-dl.org/bug . Make sure you are using the latest version; see https://yt-dl.org/update on how to update. Be sure to call

Question

How do can i download the content of the playlist ideally as audio files only with a sane naming ideally as ogg files assuming that these seems to be the most efficient in terms of storage and audio quality.

Self-diagnostics

1. Unable to download some videos

Seems that youtube-dl doesn't see the videos

  • youtube-dl qRuNxHqwazs works
  • youtube-dl 9bZkp7q19f0 doesn't work
    • also youtube-dl https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bZkp7q19f0 doesn't work

Based on brainstorm in freenode.net/##linux -> Possibly YouTube is implementing a DRM?

Usage of proxy (tor) doesn't seem to affect the result

man nor tldr pages doesn't seem to help

according to https://invidio.us/watch?v=9bZkp7q19f0&autoplay=0&continue=0&dark_mode=true&listen=0&local=1&loop=0&nojs=0&player_style=youtube&quality=dash&thin_mode=false the download is disabled, relevant?

Trying to download the video from invidius doesn't seem to help

kreyren@leonid:~/Music/Playlist$ youtube-dl -x https://invidio.us/watch?v=9bZkp7q19f0

ERROR: No video formats found; please report this issue on https://yt-dl.org/bug . Make sure you are using the latest version; see https://yt-dl.org/update on how to update. Be sure to call youtube-dl with the --verbose flag and include its complete

Seems to be related to version 2020.03.24 trying to update on 2020.06.06 which has been reported to work

Solution

Solved by updating on 2020.06.06 version and invoking:

kreyren@leonid:~/Music/Playlist$ youtube-dl -x --audio-format mp3 -o "%(title)s by %(uploader)s on %(upload_date)s in %(playlist)s.%(ext)s" https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAqlaNzxkdyZ4y0SLlyskPE8-BRgf6CPe
