Question

I'm using youtube-dl for downloading twitch VODs and editing them into highlights. The problem is working with very lengthy videos (up to 8 hours) considering limitations on editing softwares, which don't allow to put the entire multiple hour video at the same time. Would it be possible for videos to be saved in segments, either by their size or length? I'm sorry if the answer to the question is somewhere in the documentation, I tried looking through it but it was confusing at times, I might've just missed it.

youtube-dl -v "https://www.twitch.tv/videos/xxx" --hls-prefer-ffmpeg --external-downloader-args "-ss 00:30:00 -to 00:40:00"

this example only downloads between 30 to 40 minutes. change the values accordingly.

@ItsGrinn FFmpeg is useful for lots of stuff, not only with youtube-dl.

If you try your method on twitter youtube, it will be downloaded completely. I only know that you can use the youtube-dl - g parameter to download the specified time period on YouTube
