Reading the help-output I stopped at this:
--audio-quality QUALITY ffmpeg/avconv audio quality specification, insert a value between 0 (better) and 9 (worse) for VBR or a specific bitrate like 128K (default 5)

As usually 0 means lower quality / higher compression and 9 better quality. So "... between 9 (better) and 0 (worse) for..." should be the sentence.

We're just relaying ffmpeg's audio quality options here. If you don't believe me that higher numbers mean better quality, compare

youtube-dl sG9H5E2JN3s -x --audio-format mp3 --audio-quality 9 -o 'quality9.%(ext)s' -k
youtube-dl sG9H5E2JN3s -x --audio-format mp3 --audio-quality 1 -o 'quality1.%(ext)s'

and play quality1.mp3 as well as quality9.mp3.
