There are no installation instructions in the readme file

The readme file is just a copy of the man(1) page (or its python equivalent). Installation instructions are on the website. For your reference, you can either run the binaries (youtube-dl or youtube-dl.exe) or alternatively, if you have pip installed, sudo pip install --upgrade youtube_dl.

Installation instructions are on the website.
which is...?

Because when I search for "youtube-dl" in Google all I find is the main page of the project here on Github. Where the readme is displayed (by default, I guess). Perhaps that would be a good place to put a link to the website.

https://github.com/rg3/youtube-dl, the link is in top of the Github page.

Also, I don't know what's wrong with your google, but the 1st and 3rd websites I see are both websites for this project, and both have install instructions.

That's funny, yesterday the first result was the github page, or maybe I misspelled it or something.

the link is in top of the Github page.

Sorry, my bad. Being that on a github domain too, i didn't even notice it, thinking it was nothing other than an automatic link to the very same github page.
