There are two URL patterns:

http://www.today.com/video/today/55157190/ (video on its own - with them the generic extractor kicks in and does download a file but it is unplayable, with no extension. In the example below the file is Costas - Michael Sam ‘will be judged on his play’ - Video on TODAY.com-launch=55157190&autoplay=true&omid=facebook.unknown_video)

http://www.today.com/news/todays-takeaway-costas-weighs-michael-sam-draft-al-reports-re-2D79656834 (video embedded in a news story on the site)
