Duplicate of #3104. This issue was fixed in c26e9ac, run sudo youtube-dl -U to upgrade.

The thing is that i installed the youtube-dl from repository (lubuntu), and so when i execute the command "sudo youtube-dl -U" it say to me:

"It looks like you installed youtube-dl with a package manager, pip, setup.py or a tarball. Please use that to update."

So, i would wait for the update from the ubuntu repository.
I successfully accomplished just now to download another video :)))

I'm afraid youtube-dl is not so often updated in ubuntu repos, therefore I encourage you to install it using any method from here.

Oh, perfect!!! it run now!!
I preferred before not to install directly as you suggested because i think that it's more safe for the security of my PC to install apps only from the official repository. But after you insist in your last comment, i realized that youtube-dl is an opensource app on GitHub... so i suppose that's totally safe ;)

Was this fixed? I just tried this:
youtube-dl -v -w -c -i -f best -o "$(pwd)/%(playlist)s/%(title)s.%(ext)s" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7wrPEatuk4&list=RDY05rqt0YHtw&index=1

it would get the first but that's it.

if I remove the "?index=1", it won't get anything...just hangs.

it seems the easiest to work around this is with a small bash script:

@lightydo This has been fixed long ago. Please open a new issue with the complete output of youtube-dl when called with -v if you are using version 2014.08.10 or newer.
