hi,
I use --write-description a lot for seperate videos. Although I could use a bash shorthand or whatever, I think it might still be usefull to have another shorthand letter for this command for other users as well. Anyway, this is not important at all, don't do this just for me, but let me know if you'd want to spend a letter on this.

thank you for this great tool!
cheers, bart

I do not think that --write-description is used by that many users that it deserves a short prefix. You can simply write --write-description into your configuration file. I'm not sure why you want --write-description in the first place - maybe you could elaborate on some context?

Well, in particular, I use --write-description for Youtube only. Like I said, making a few aliases in .bashrc is ok for me. On a related note: maybe instead of a warning when there's no description to write, you could prevent writing the extra file altogether? Maybe then I might stick it down the config.

ps. another way for Firefox+Vimperator users is to define a shortcut for a youtube url matching pattern, in order to evaluate buffer.URI and launch a youtube-dl background processes through system() containing the uri.

@sharethewisdom In the next version, the file won't be created if there's no description.

Fixed in youtube-dl 2015.01.03 and newer. See our FAQ if you need help updating.
