You are using an outdated version of youtube-dl. YouTube changed their API on 2014-07-25, so you'll need at least youtube-dl 2014.07.25 to download all YouTube videos.

The Ubuntu folks seem to have stopped updating youtube-dl versions. Since we are not affilliated with Ubuntu, the only thing you can do is contact the Ubuntu support.

Alternatively, uninstall the youtube-dl package and follow our manual installation instructions. From then on, you'll be able to update with sudo youtube-dl -U. In a pinch, this should do:

sudo apt-get remove -y youtube-dl
sudo wget https://yt-dl.org/latest/youtube-dl -O /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
hash -r
