Here's the information. NOTE: the md5sum is of the raw video file. I can do a md5sum on the audio file and output file. md5sum= b03e3c29869540e8de7f0cd144b38750 Verbose:

Mmm, maybe this is a problem with avconv? What does Can you play this video? That works fine for me with Kaffeine, vlc, mplayer and chromium. |

I just invoked the command-line you gave on my systems. For YouTube, the md5sum is not of much help, since it varies regularly. You are right, the final file I'm generating is way too small. Let me have a look of what's afoot here. |

Okay, I got more data:
So this is caused by an outdated version of ffmpeg/avconv. I think we should detect the ffmpeg/avconv version and warn accordingly. |

Thank you for the report. In youtube-dl version 2014.10.26 and newer we now emit a warning that the version of ffmpeg is too old. |
I keep having a problem when I download a 1080p video file and the highest audio format, but ffmpeg can't can't mix them together, because the output file is apparently screwed up. If I try to play the raw video file, it won't work. On VLC, it just won't play, and on my system's default video player, it just crashes. BTW I am on Linux Mint 16. The verbose always says it's fine, but I can do it again if you would like.
