I don't know if it's supposed to work, because it's the first time I'm using youtube-dl to extract an Arte.tv video, but it failed for the video at www.arte.tv/guide/fr/053409-000/il-etait-une-fois :

youtube-dl --version
2014.08.05

youtube-dl -U
It looks like you installed youtube-dl with a package manager, pip, setup.py or a tarball. Please use that to update.

Thank you for the report. arte.tv changed their interface since youtube-dl 2014.08.05 was released, so you'll need a newer version; preferably the current 2014.11.20.1, which I've just extended with a better format selection. Refer to our FAQ if you need help updating.
