deredactie.be no audio for most of the video

When I download videos from deredactie.be the audio stops after 3 seconds.
The test url in the vrt.py file doesn't exist any more so use http://deredactie.be/cm/vrtnieuws/videozone/nieuws/binnenland/1.2232842 instead.

I don't have much experience with python, so I can't find what's wrong.

I downloaded the flv version (f4m-823) and the mp4 version (m3u8-927) and both play just fine over here (the video as well as the audio). There might be something wrong with your player. Is it up-to-date?

Thanks, I converted the video to mp4 and all of a sudden the video had audio.
I never thought that it could be a fault of the player.
Both times I used an up to date version of vlc, so I'm gonna search there for strangeness.
So, it's not a fault of youtube-dl and I'll close it.

It is a bug in f4m downloader possibly similar to #2752 or #2388.

I have known about this issue for a long time. Some players (last version of VLC, my LG Smart TV, etcetera) are not able to play the sound. A previous version (1.x) of VLC does manage... sometimes.
Don't know what's causing this, maybe a problem with the video container, I'm not sufficiently knowledgeable about this. There definitely is a problem on the provider side (VRT) as well. They seem to be using some rare streaming software, one of the only sites I know of which has this issue.

The workaround: add -f mp4 to the command line to force the download of the mp4 version. Wouldn't it be best to adapt the code so that VRT downloads get downloaded in mp4 by default? (the presented mp4 stream is always at least on par with the flv version)

This issue used to be a problem of the VRT video player, a long time ago. But it hasn't presented itself anymore since. So this report can be closed.

The VRT player has changed, and issue has not occurred the last few years.
