I can use the same version of YTD on other hardware that has the same OS(Ubuntu/Gnome 14.10) with no issues. I have updated with apt and have purged and re-installed from default repo and still crashes.

You are using an outdated version of youtube-dl. YouTube changed their playlist interface in October 2014 (and if memory serves 2014.08.25.1 is also important in between). See our FAQ for options to update despite outdated versions in the Ubuntu repositories.
