--convert-subtitles and --embed-subs failing on vimeo #6255

youtube-dl https://vimeo.com/73309361 --write-sub

will successfully download WebVTT formatted subtitle file, but

youtube-dl https://vimeo.com/73309361 --write-sub --convert-subtitles srt

or

youtube-dl https://vimeo.com/73309361 --write-sub --embed-subs

yields

ERROR: Severinas-73309361.en.vtt: Invalid data found when processing input

Both commands work for me:

$ youtube-dl https://vimeo.com/73309361 --write-sub --convert-subtitles srt -v

You can either use --prefer-ffmpeg or remove avconv from $PATH.

@przemyslawpluta I see no error from your log, and your didn't use --embed-subs, so the case is different from @tkfu's. Please open a new issue and describe what's your expectation.

For this ticket, as @tkfu does not provide sufficient information and as @luluman said, it occurs only with avconv, so I'm closing it here.

Thanks. That worked for me on OSX 10.11.6 and youtube-dl 2016.11.08.1 (brew installed)
