$ pip install -U youtube-dl
$ youtube-dl --version
2014.02.17

On running $ youtube-dl https://www.youtube.complaylist?list=PL3s4G5l5nwI99ZyY19i2yFbb7SrM_0yIa --verbose
I get

I was not on the latest version. pip -U youtube-dl is not upgrading to latest version. Maybe because of py2 and py3.
Solved by creating a virtualenv for py3
