On Crunchyroll, different seasons of individual shows tend to have different titles instead of just season numbers. For example, Symphogear’s three seasons as listed on Crunchyroll are called Symphogear, Symphogear G and Symphogear GX instead of sequential numbering.
Using this command:
Each subtitle file was correctly downloaded but each file was named “Symphogear Episode # – Episode Title.enUS.ext” regardless of which season it came from, no indication of G or GX for seasons 2 or 3 respectively. Some series (such as Shugo Chara) use constant sequential numbering throughout each season so the problem wouldn’t occur (i.e. season 2 begins at episode 52, season 3 begins at episode 103); in the case of Symphogear, each season starts at episode 1. When downloaded, each episode number appears three times and files have to be manually sorted or renamed.
One possible solution would be to add an output template option to add the season name/number to the output filename. Another would be to automatically capture the season name and use it as %(title)s, though this may not be desirable for the purposes of chronological sorting as not all shows have their season titles in numerical or alphabetical order (e.g. Naruto Shuppuden).
Given that Crunchyroll does display a show’s seasons in reverse chronological order by default, it may be possible to add an %(autonumber)s-like output sequence that sequentially numbers whole seasons as opposed to (or as well as) individual videos. I think that this would be a worthwhile addition either way.
