First let me thank you for this wonderful program. Now to my issue. I find from youtube-dl --help that format selection is not available for videos from dailyshow and colbertnation.com. So I am left downloading the highest format video. I don't have a problem with that. Only thing is that I am on high speed network 2mbps but my videos from both dailyshow and colbertnation are being downloaded at 15-20 KBps and are taking an eternity to download. Youtube videos are downloaded at 300KBps+. Is there a issue with my connection or is it just comedycentral that is slow?

No, the comedycentral servers are usually even faster than youtube (which normally throttles to about 500KBit/s), and I can reproducibly hit 1MB/s from different ISPs. Can you reproduce the issue with another connection? You're welcome to implement format selection, it's just that I didn't find an easy way to list all formats.

In the meantime, you can try feeding the URLs you get with --get-url to axel or another downloader (we're working on native support for that).

Thanks for the reply. So now I know my isp seems to be the block here.
As far as making modifications to youtube-dl, I am not yet as technically efficient for that. When I am i will be more than happy to contribute. I will try your suggested method till you experts get everything working natively.
