You are using an outdated version of youtube-dl. Read our FAQ if you have troubles updating.

OK so in other words the aptitude package youtube-dl is not current and the FAQ says to download the latest youtube-dl binary. Is someone going to push that upstream to debian repos? Just a thought.

Since none of us maintain the package in LinuxMint you should ask its maintainer.

If your problem is that you have to download the binary that isn't provided by your distribution, you should know that it's just a zip file and you can build it yourself from the source or install the python code with pip
