I have no idea what i'm doing, but it ain't working

So here goes my first bug-report (ever ö). I Have no idea what i'm doing, but it is not working... What i tried was:
$ youtube-dl -U
didn't work, because i had installed it with apt-get
$ sudo apt-get install --upgrade youtube-dl
already the latest version installed...

btw i'm sorry for not correctly pasting the code (in code-style), but i've read this:https://guides.github.com/features/mastering-markdown/ and it ain't working either...

Version provided by package managers (apt-get for example) are usually out-dated. You need to uninstall it from apt-get first and then install the latest version (2015.12.21) manually.
