Add Vote (Question/Answer) Support for WordPress ActivityPub Plugin

Hi folks 👋

I’d like to suggest adding support for poll interactions (ActivityPub Question/Answer types) to the WordPress ActivityPub plugin.

Currently:

Mastodon polls can be viewed and voted on from Misskey.

Misskey polls can be viewed and voted on from Mastodon (depending on the instance configuration).

WordPress can’t participate in any of them.

As a WordPress user in the fediverse, it sometimes feels like we’re being left out of the conversation — or at least out of the vote. 😢

It would be great if WordPress could both send polls (Questions) and respond (Answers) to polls originating from other ActivityPub servers.

This would not only make WordPress a more active part of the fediverse, but also help ensure we have our rightful voting rights as citizens of the decentralized web! 🗳️✨

I have a project where I develop exactly this (though I focus on sending polls first and receiving votes). I will share the repository along with the project board here soon, it needs some polishing, in order to not cause more confusion than information :)

I wanted to point out once more that contributions are welcome (compensated by donations 💓), especially with regard to the React part. However, I am also eager to delve deeper into that.

On WordPress.com-hosted sites, there’s a CrowdSignal Poll block available in the block editor. Would it be possible to consider building an ActivityPub extension based on that functionality?

I investigated CrowdSignal, but as the poll votes are not stored within WordPress but in the Cloud, this might get very tricky and is therefore not in the focus of "Polls for ActivityPub".
