we have in GIE a documentation for EPP metrics dashboards.

This documentation relies on running Google Managed Prometheus, while GIE supports several running options other than using Google Cloud.

it should be documented how to set up Prometheus (could be internally in the cluster as a container) including its scraping documentation. having a working example would be best.

Yes, definitely, a non-GCP background would be preferred here to avoid further bias

The docs implementation of this issue should use a separate tab for each documented environment (similar to the getting started guide).
