Hi thanks for filing this issue. Could you turn off the setting editor.experimentalEditContextEnabled and see if this still happens?

Could you also test whether you are able to input with the Microsoft Pinyin IME on the following website: https://microsoftedge.github.io/Demos/edit-context/. Does it work as expected?

I am currently not able to reproduce this issue. I see the following:

Turning off editor.experimentalEditContextEnabled works for editor but doesn't work for Copilot chatting.
The website you provide works fine with Microsoft Pinyin IME.
Yes, I guess we are using the same IME. But I'm using Windows 10. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the operating system.

Hi thank you for the comment. I was able to reproduce this issue on the desktop. Can you please let me know if you see this happen with the same settings you have AND the edit context enabled on the website https://insiders.vscode.dev/ on your up to date chrome navigator if you have one?

If you do not see this happen on insiders in the web, then it could be a chromium issue that has since been fixed and that we have not yet adopted.

This issue is improved but not completely fixed in the insider website. There is still a chance that candidate words will not be displayed. See:

Hi @DinoFive thank you for your response. Since you mentioned the behavior is improved on your higher version Edge browser then it is likely to be related to a chromium issue. I will investigate what chromium version creates the improvement and we will aim to upgrade our Electron version. I will also try to reproduce this on a minimal example and file an issue to the chromium team.

We may have to disable the setting by default in the meantime, I have to discuss this with my team.

I noticed one thing in your screen recoriding. The first time you type nihao the candidate box does not appear. Is this expected? On the second and third tries etc, it appears.
