Python extension not working for version 1.101

Steps to Reproduce:
Everything worked until I updated VS Code. When trying to install python extension I get:
"Can't install 'ms-python.python' extension because it is not compatible with the current version of Visual Studio Code (version 1.101.0)"
Now I have tried different versions of VS Code and Python extension but nothing works
