Type: Bug
The TypeScript native preview extension only has prereleases on the marketplace. When you try to install the extension in a stable build of VS Code, it appears to try to install a stable version of the extension, which fails with an error message.
I think that if no other releases are available, the latest prerelease should be installed automatically rather than prompting in a red error window.
