Can't install intl extension under 8.1-alpine

As of today, installing the intl extension fails under 8.1-alpine and 8.1-fpm-alpine.

docker run --rm -it php:8.1-alpine sh -c 'apk add --update icu-dev && docker-php-ext-install intl'

Came here to report the same.

docker run --rm -it php:8.1-alpine3.22 sh -c 'apk add --update icu-dev && docker-php-ext-install intl'

fails while

docker run --rm -it php:8.1-alpine3.21 sh -c 'apk add --update icu-dev && docker-php-ext-install intl'

works.

Possible some gcc updates? I downgraded to alpine 3.21 for now.

Looks like this works fine in PHP 8.2, so it's likely that PHP 8.1's intl extension does not support the newer icu library in Alpine 3.22. In other words, without doing potentially invasive backports to a version of PHP that's already mostly end-of-life and will be fully end-of-life at the end of this year, this likely won't work, so you should either upgrade your version of PHP or downgrade your version of Alpine if the intl extension is something you need.
