Description
Description:
When running the Netflix web application downloaded from the Microsoft Store or when watching Netflix in the Microsoft Edge browser on a Windows 11 machine, the screen brightness changes/flickers when subtitles are displayed.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Open the Netflix web application downloaded from the Microsoft Store or launch Netflix in the Microsoft Edge browser on a Windows 11 machine.
- Start playing a video and enable subtitles.
- Observe the screen brightness changing or flickering while the subtitles are displayed.
Expected Behaviour:
The screen brightness should remain stable and consistent while subtitles are shown in the Netflix web application or when using Microsoft Edge.
Actual Behaviour:
The screen brightness changes or flickers when subtitles are displayed in the Netflix web application or when using Microsoft Edge.
Workaround:
There are two known workarounds for this issue:
- Turn off hardware acceleration in the Microsoft Edge settings. This will stop the screen brightness from flickering. (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/why-does-netflix-subtitles-flicker-screen/ab72b651-882b-40e6-bc31-f661e3c72016)
- Switch to a different web browser, such as Google Chrome, or other OS, to watch Netflix. The screen brightness issue does not occur in other browsers. (Suggested by Netflix customer support, worked for me on my own system)
Environment:
- Operating System: Windows 11 Pro N, Version 10.0.26100, Build 26100
- Microsoft Edge version: Version 131.0.2903.86 (Official build) (64-bit)
Additional Information:
This issue appears to be specific to the Microsoft Edge browser and the Netflix web application on Windows devices. It does not seem to be a problem with the Netflix service or the hardware of the device.
