There's also RYM, but I haven't compared the two lists. https://rateyourmusic.com/genres/ |

Hi. Regarding the blacklist idea, I just drafted something together that addresses one of my personal feature wishes: #5744 Could be a basis for further ideas on how a blacklist feature works. What do you all think? |

Regarding the scraper and genre tree fetcher, some first thoughts: Basically a good idea to upgrade the scraper to work with a better source than wikipedia. I had a look at both suggestions but can't decide what's better... The https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_music_genres_and_styles does incluce Vaporwave btw! What happens if yoou use the current scraper and re-fetch from wikipedia? Does that still work or is broken already? |

I've been playing with lastgenre lately. It does a great job, but grabs a few genres I don't want, and misses some I do, so I realized I'd have to setup a slightly different genre tree. (Regardless, I think a blacklist: feature would be very handy too). The fact that city pop and vaporwave were missing bugged me, and I did some googling and stumbled upon this resource:
https://www.musicgenreslist.com/#music-genre-list
They offer a download, but it's a PDF and has a lot fewer genres than the webpage itself. There's some commentary and extra stuff that would need to be cleaned up. I'm going to give it a shot on my personal collection. Would this be something useful to submit here? If so, maybe the scraper could be rewritten to pull from this source and do the cleanup for us.
