website gets stuck after creating a share link #18615

I have searched the existing issues, both open and closed, to make sure this is not a duplicate report.

The bug

On a PC I browse my photos, I select some, I click share - create link - close the popup with QR code and then the website is stuck and I cannot scroll and click anywhere! I can only press esc which works to unselect selected photos, but that's all. I have to refresh the page to make it work again. Looks like there is something invisible on top which is capturing all mouse events.
Happens the same on Firefox and Edge

Encountered this issue as well using Brave Browser on Debian 12, v1.133.1. No errors were shown in the console

Confirmed this as well, seems like clicking the X (Close) on the "View Link" dialog re-adds the style="pointer-events: none;" to the <body> tag, while clicking on "Create Link" in the previous dialog ("Create link to share") removes it, possibly unintentionally?

Perhaps this may be be related to when bits-ui updates pointer-events after the dialog is closed, seems like there is some sort of race between the outgoing and incoming modals, and as a result leads to style="pointer-events: none;" being added, as pointed out by @AviiNL, which leaves the library thinking the modal is in the open state.

To verify this, I added a short timeout in ModalManager after the previous modal unmounts, which seemed to temporarily resolve the unexpected behaviour.

      onClose = async (data?: K) => {
        await unmount(modal);
        // wait for outgoing modal to update pointer-events
        setTimeout(() => {
          resolve(data);
        }, 5);
      };

In general, the above issue affects modals displayed sequentially when closing the 2nd modal (and I suppose those even numbered in sequence), but does not affect stacked modals. Another example of this issue would be

  1. Select album
  2. Share action
  3. (1st modal) Create link
  4. (2nd modal) Close
  5. pointer-events: none is not removed

I'm not sure what would be a more suitable fix for this so I'm just sharing my findings here first.

Also have the same problem on the Microsoft Edge. Can't interact with the UI after sharing.

Any progress on this issue? I am afraid to hit the rollback button to the older version that has no issue with this....
