Clicking the download button on the "https://gitforwindows.org/" page does not download resources but jumps to "https://github.com/git-for-windows/git/releases/latest".
In July 2024, I can still download resources normally through the download button on the "https://gitforwindows.org/" page. Will the way to download resources by clicking download on May 13, 2025 and jumping to "https://github.com/git-for-windows/git/releases/latest" be changed?

You are right, it used to be that pressing that Download button would download the Git for Windows installer immediately.

There was just this catch that the decision which installer to download (i686 or x86_64? I.e. 32-bit Intel or 64-bit Intel?) is performed by client-side JavaScript that sometimes got it wrong.

In particular when Git for Windows started supporting Windows/ARM64, and even much more so when this project stopped building 32-bit installers, this script got it very wrong, which was fixed in git-for-windows/git-for-windows.github.io#61.

A major improvement in the new client-side JavaScript code is that it now uses a modern browser interface that specifically talks about the CPU architecture of the browser, and the code no longer relies on the (quite fragile!) logic that inspected the User-Agent header. Unfortunately this means that sometimes (I am looking at you, Firefox!), that modern browser interface is not available, and the decision whether to download an x86_64 installer or an ARM64 one simply cannot be made. When that is the case, the Download button no longer defaults to the x86_64 installer but instead directs the browser to the latest release and forces the user to decide.

@Athony1225 If you want to work on improving this, maybe you can implement a drop-down menu that is shown to the user when clicking the Download button and that lets the user decide which installer to download, and open a PR with that improvement?
