The highlighted item re-sets during re-render without suggestions changing

Steps:

1. Focus on the input field
2. Type c and down arrow twice quickly

Observed behaviour: The highlighted item re-sets back to the first one

Expected behaviour: The highlighted item should not change

I'm experiencing this issue too. It seems like it is related to #651

Any good workarounds until we get a fix?

Turns out, if you set highlightFirstSuggestion to false, this bug doesn't happen.
