Description
Just been trying Limine with CachyOS, very impressed with how well it handles btrfs snapshots generally.
However, quiet mode (which I like to have on with a timeout of 1 so that most of the time Limine is transparent and only comes up if I press a key) seems to break restoring from a snapshot.
Here's the chain of events:
Boot as normal, create a snapshot via Btrfs Assistant
Reboot, hammer the down arrow key to bring up Limine (I found this the best "any" key to use without accidentally booting entries etc)
Choose the snapshot
Desktop appears and warns that it's running off a snapshot and should be restored. Restore it as instructed, which has the various hooks into Limine
Reboot - black screen of death
Only way I've found to fix it is to boot into live USB, mount /boot, and edit quiet mode back out.
First boot after doing this, the menu comes up with no timeout and I have to select the (restored) cachy-os entry manually.
Thereafter, it works as normal and quiet mode can be re-enabled.
Edit: Found another workaround - when you get to the BSOD press down and then enter, to boot the first entry. From then on it works. It seems like the GUI stays invisible (quiet mode) but is actually active. Once it has a "last used" entry to default to again, pressing a key brings the GUI up as it should.
