Added Alternative link to OSTEP (Lectures by co-author) #1294
Conversation
Alternative links are added for the same course, but hosted on a different platform. This is an entirely different course, based on the same textbook. A better place for it would be the extra courses section. |
I think it's still the ssame course CS 537: Intro to Operating Systems. It uses the same textbook and it's even made by the co-author Andrea. It seems like an alternative course format to me. |
My first thought was that this could be included in the course page for OSTEP. The fact that there's this extra context to understand makes it even more reasonable to put some narrative information around it. |
Separately, there are 8 commits for just one change. Can you squash changes into a single commit? |
Sure, I was thinking of updating the OSTEP page with the dive into systems update as well. On another note, I found a C programming course on EdX I could also mention in the course page if that would be okay. It was mentioned in #1134 |
Good call!
In general OSSU strives to recommend one course, even when multiple options are available. That clarity is valuable to students, who often need to stop comparing and start studying. (I speak from personal experience!) |
They are the same course, indeed. It was some confusion on my part, sorry. It would still make sense to include it on the coursepage, instead of on the curriculum homepage. There is a newer set of lectures from Rezmi himself too, from 2021: https://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~remzi/Classes/537/Fall2021/Discussion/videos.html |
As for the C course, what Waciuma said about recommending one course is true, but the situation in the OSTEP course page is not great in that regard either It recommends multiple books. Dive into system recommendation can streamline it for the base approach. but it is not enough for the extended approach. OSSU prefers video courses above books, so it is worth it to take a look at the course you mention. That would be better discussed in its own separate RFC, though. |
