Description
Description of the new feature / enhancement
The Command Palette in Microsoft PowerToys is a powerful tool for quickly accessing commands and settings. However, it currently does not support searching for Control Panel applets, such as “Create and format hard disk partitions,” “Create a restore point,” and other essential system utilities.
Adding this functionality would significantly enhance the usability of the Command Palette by allowing users to quickly locate and launch key system settings without navigating through multiple menus. This feature would improve efficiency for power users, IT administrators, and general users who rely on quick access to system tools.
Expected Behavior
- Users should be able to type the name of a Control Panel applet in the Command Palette and see relevant results.
- Selecting the result should open the corresponding Control Panel applet.
- Common applets, such as “Device Manager,” “Network and Sharing Center,” and “Power Options,” should be searchable.
Scenario when this would be used?
- System Management: Quickly opening disk management, restore points, or network settings without going through multiple windows.
- Troubleshooting & Optimization: IT professionals and power users can access advanced system settings more efficiently.
- Enhanced Workflow: Instead of manually locating applets, users can instantly find and open them using the Command Palette.
Supporting information
This feature aligns with the core purpose of the Command Palette—providing fast access to commands and system functionalities. Since Control Panel applets are widely used but sometimes hard to locate, integrating them into the Command Palette would improve accessibility and user experience.
