Reasons for making this change:
When copying a downloaded file from Windows >= 10 to WSL directory, a
<FILE-NAME>:Zone.Identifierfile is generated on certain configurations. Upon closer inspection, I've found that this is actually a policy that can be changed (see here). However, on certain corporate setups, one cannot simply change this feature due to being enrolled in AD. Because of this, 100% of the git repos from my company has this file added in gitignore.Links to documentation supporting these rule changes:
