Dear all,

I reached out to the email that is mentioned on the website (admin@theoj.org) to inquire about a submission but didnt hear back.
Is this the wrong email to get in touch or should I use some other means of communication?

Best,
Simon

@musall Probably it is just hard to keep up with the email. What is your question? Perhaps I can help answer or connect you with someone to answer here.

@kthyng I’m experiencing the same issue. I reached out to admin@theoj.org about a week ago but haven’t received a response yet.
I’m contacting you regarding a submission I sent approximately six weeks ago. I haven’t received any updates, and it doesn’t appear to have entered the pre-review phase.

All the Best,
Alessandro

Dear Kristen,

I was inquiring about submission for a software that is now integrated into a larger toolbox. Here is a link to the pull request where we integrated the code: SpikeInterface/spikeinterface#2918

We have also created extensive documentation (https://spikeinterface.readthedocs.io/en/latest/tutorials_custom_index.html#automated-curation-tutorials, https://spikeinterface.readthedocs.io/en/latest/api.html#spikeinterface.curation.auto_label_units and https://spikeinterface.readthedocs.io/en/latest/api.html#spikeinterface.curation.train_model) and tests already (https://github.com/SpikeInterface/spikeinterface/blob/main/src/spikeinterface/curation/tests/test_model_based_curation.py and https://github.com/SpikeInterface/spikeinterface/blob/main/src/spikeinterface/curation/tests/test_train_manual_curation.py).

Specifically, if wanted to ask if there is a preference in which repository the manuscript should be placed before starting a submission. We could create a side-branch for the submission in the spike interface package, since the module is now fully implemented in this toolbox and we expect most users to use it this way. I also wondered if such a branch would be temporary or should be maintained to host the manuscript later on.

Best,
Simon

@amaccarini Yes I see it hasn't been initiated yet. This is a busy time of year for people whose semesters are ending, plus we're putting time into onboarding new editors to improve this in the future, cc @kyleniemeyer

@musall We have a precedent for reviewing parts of larger packages. I don't recall there being a special way of doing it other than being really clear for the editor and reviewers about what is part of the review and what isn't. If everything is in SpikeInterface, easiest is probably if the manuscript can go there, but we sometimes have them in different repos I think. The manuscript can be in a branch and doesn't need to be present later since the paper would be archived with the JOSS submission.

@kthyng Thanks a lot for the update! I was mainly asking about the status because I noticed that some papers submitted more recently than mine already appear on the active submissions page (https://joss.theoj.org/papers/active), so I was a bit concerned that my submission might have been overlooked.
But now that I know it’s in the system, I’ll just wait patiently. Thanks again for your help!

Different tracks run at different rates, depending on people's availability.
