What happened?

When viewing text in some websites, Zen shows the text significantly scaled down compared to Firefox. This issue seems to be related to Windows display scaling settings, because when I display the same webpage on a monitor with no scaling applied, the text displayed in Zen is identical to the text displayed in Firefox. For context, I noticed this issue using my laptop which has a 16" 2560x1600 display set to 150% scaling. Zen appears to be rendering this text at the size it would be when the display is set to 100% scaling. However, when I set my display to 100% scaling, the text renders even smaller still. This issue is not resolved by fiddling with Zen's inbuilt scaling settings - scaling text only increases the size of all text on the webpage.

This issue is not limited to text. Some webpage UI elements - and sometimes whole webpages - are rendered about 30% smaller on Zen than compared to Firefox. When the issues is with the entire website, simply scaling the entire site to 130% matches the side when compared to Firefox. However, text exclusively is more often affected than whole websites. This was tested on Firefox 135.0, where the only change was sidebar.verticalTabs in about:config set to true

  • Setting Windows display to 100% scaling resolves the issue.
  • The problem mainly affects text, not entire websites.
  • Zen's internal scaling settings do not fix the issue.
  • No further comments or activity have been made on this issue.
