If I'm browsing a repository I don't own, I would like a quick way to see what permissions I have on it: for example, whether I can write directly to it or create pull requests.
Perhaps it could appear in the Collaborators section in the right-hand sidebar: maybe there could be an icon by each collaborator's name indicating whether they're the owner and whether they have direct write access or not. Or, if there's a preference not to reveal that information about all collaborators, just an icon by my own name in the Collaborators list indicating what permission level I have.
I know there are some workarounds, like seeing if the Settings icon is visible (but this doesn't always work: it's possible to have direct write access to a repo but not be able to see the Settings icon), or just trying to push a change and seeing if it succeeds or not. I also know there's a way to check by generating an access token, submitting an API request, and looking at the JSON that comes back. But it seems like the sort of setting that should be visible at a glance on the front page of a project, without having to resort to these methods.
If I were to add this as an Issue, would https://github.com/github/roadmap/labels/repositories be the right place, or somewhere else?
