Description
It has been flagged by the tax team that products in the “Tea and Infusion” category are being taxed on orders in NJ, where they should be exempt. Our tax partner is using code PF051962 for sweetened and ready-to-drink tea.
This issue likely stems from the taxonomy tree, which currently lacks different categories for loose unsweetened tea (PF050221) versus ready-to-drink beverages.
This is likely to affect similar categories in the future, such as chocolate and coffee.
Inherent tax discrepancies may not always align perfectly with 1:1 differences in the taxonomy tree (nor should they!), as tax rules will likely vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and can't be fully captured with a single taxonomy tree. However, the distinction between dried, granules, loose, etc., and their liquid, ready-to-drink counterparts seems to warrant a valid differentiation in our taxonomy tree. These are clearly distinct products commercialized in different formats.
