My email address is PII, and codefactor doesn't need to know it in order to tell me about my code quality.

Yet, it's asking me for permission to know my email address.

Please revert whatever change caused this.

@KyLeggiero Thank you for the feedback. You're right, email is not necessary for the code review process.

We'll discuss internally of the changes needed to not require (or require on demand) email address for other parts of CodeFactor like support tickets and payments.

After internal discussion we've concluded that an email address is important for us to effectively provide certain aspects of CodeFactor.io service. Specifically, it helps us ensure seamless payment processing, deliver timely support, and send critical notifications related to your account and service updates if needed.

We prioritize the security, privacy and limited ask and use of PII. We use email only when necessary to enhance user experience and support. I hope you understand.

So you're killing the free tier, is what I'm hearing? Am I correct?

I apologize for not being clear enough. No, the intent is not to kill the free tier. We remain committed to offering the free tier and there are no plans to change this.

Technically, we could offer service without email address, however, to ensure the best experience and functionality across tiers we require an email address. This helps us maintain quality and reduce friction in using CodeFactor. And provides most seamless experience across tiers.

For more context, CodeFactor always required email address from users since the beginning, the change that you're seeing was part of our migration effort from GitHub OAuth to App integration as default.

We also can see how no-email feature could be significant to some users and we will reevaluate it in the future.

I understand; thank you for letting me know.

I look forward to being able to use CodeFactor without providing any billing information.

I'm a lead engineer.
Until it can be used without providing billing information, I will be recommending my companies and colleagues avoid CodeFactor.

Please let me know when I can once again tell them it is good to use.
