I got used to loving the .stl preview feature within file explorer. When working with CAD data, STLs are not always the preferred data format, and often .step files are being used. It would be incredible if something similar to STL preview could be implemented for step files as well.
Scenario when this would be used?
I often find myself in the situation of importing 3d models for electronic assemblies into my CAD tools. Most of the time, the step files provided by manufacturers are just labeled with their part number, making it hard to select the right component, especially when collecting a few models over time. Having a step file preview would greatly simplify this task.
