Not seeing suggestion pop up for fish (do see for bash)

Like the screenshot shows in (1) of the TPI, I was expecting to see the suggestion popup when using fish. The same kinds of commands typed in a bash shell do provide sugggestions

There's definitely a chance i'm holding fish wrong. I installed it directly from https://launchpad.net/~fish-shell/+archive/ubuntu/release-3/+packages this morning.
