Aliases currently apply only to the command part before the first space. For something like git it's very obvious what an alias is so we could consider using alias for subcommands there.

For npm in this issue, it does appear there is a clear distinction between subcommands and aliases since npm help does not list i or add, so we could give the same treatment there.

It's definitely wrong some of these are classified as options but that's tracked in #241825
