Guardian Project creates easy to use secure apps, open-source software libraries, and customized hardware and software solutions that can be used around the world by any person looking to protect their communications and personal data from unjust intrusion, interception and monitoring. The team behind the project is a global collective of software developers, designers, advocates, activists and trainers who work together to pioneer internal initiatives, incubate innovative ideas from a global community, and help realize the vision of partners in need of a product team.

Over the past 15 years, the apps developed by the team have been installed by and benefited more than 20 million people (Orbot: Tor for Android, ObscuraCam, F-Droid, ChatSecure), while the developer libraries (SQLCipher, NetCipher, IOCipher) have been built into more than 5000 different apps, including Signal, WeChat and Facebook (true!).

In 2017, Guardian Project co-designed with Edward Snowden, an app called Haven, which works as a personal secure security system that puts the power of surveillance back into the hands of the most vulnerable and under threat. The team also focuses on off-grid secure apps and knowledge sharing systems, for use both in natural and man-made crises.
