Trx 1.7.0 package inclusion fails test runs

When running in VS, CLI, VSCode, the test output shows:

If I change the TRX package to 1.6.3 it succeeds and tests run as expected.

Steps To Reproduce

Run the tests and then look at error/outputs.
Change to 1.6.3 package and re-run the tests

Thanks for reporting this @timheuer. Unfortunately, Microsoft.Testing.Platform.VSTestBridge 1.6.x and Microsoft.Testing.Platform 1.7.x are not binary compatible. You need to ensure that all MTP-related packages are on the same version.

In your case, TrxReport 1.7.x will transitively use Microsoft.Testing.Platform 1.7.0, but MSTest 3.8.3 will use VSTestBridge 1.6.x.

Can you update MSTest from 3.8.3 to 3.9.0?

I can update and yep it works now. We should translate this into an issue to improve the output message here rather than exception if it is a known case.

Thanks for reporting this @timheuer. Unfortunately, Microsoft.Testing.Platform.VSTestBridge 1.6.x and Microsoft.Testing.Platform 1.7.x are not binary compatible. You need to ensure that all MTP-related packages are on the same version.

In your case, TrxReport 1.7.x will transitively use Microsoft.Testing.Platform 1.7.0, but MSTest 3.8.3 will use VSTestBridge 1.6.x.

Same for NUnit users.
NUnit3TestAdapter 5.0.0 uses VSTestBridge 1.5.3, so Microsoft.Testing.Extensions.TrxReport 1.7.x are not compatible.
We just need to add this explicit reference to Microsoft.Testing.Extensions.VSTestBridge 1.7.x.
