Support JRuby 10.0.0.0

JRuby support for OpenTelemetry is best-effort at this time.

On 14 April, 2024, JRuby 10.0.0.0 was released.

#1495 was opened to gauge compatibility.

This new version seems compatible with most of our gems, but has problems with a few of the libraries.

• mongo - Unhandled Java exception: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError
• grape - Uninitialized constant errors
• google cloud platform resource detector - OpenTelemetry::Resource::Detector::GoogleCloudPlatform::.detect#test_0001_returns an empty resource: Fiddle::DLError: Could not open kernel32.dll

Hi @kaylareopelle I am interested in seeing the ruby sdk running under jruby 10. I'm going to start looking at helping with this.

MongoDB issue
It looks like the mongo-ruby gem is using a deprecated method mongodb/bson-ruby#353 . I proposed a patch upstream. Assuming we can get that accepted and released we would need to be able to take that up here. I filed #1537 showing the change we would need assuming we can get a patch/minor release of bson-ruby.

Grape issue

This is being discussed upstream in jruby jruby/jruby#8777 It certainly looks to me like something that is unique to jruby 10 and will presumably be treated as a bug there. May inquire about workarounds, but waiting for resolution may be a blocker.

GCP issue

Looks like there was a significant refactor of jruby's use of fiddle jruby/jruby#8385. Locally just catching Fiddle::DLError in addition to LoadError fixes the tests https://github.com/googleapis/ruby-cloud-env/blob/1dd37a1972d9ba1ac6aa3bc8b20efe04f967f076/lib/google/cloud/env/compute_smbios.rb#L126. I can look at filing an issue/PR against the GCP gem googleapis/ruby-cloud-env#86

I'll help on the GCP issue. I think the PR googleapis/ruby-cloud-env#86 is the right idea, just needs some fixup.

• Pushed new commit to ruby-cloud-env gem PR googleapis/ruby-cloud-env@9ca22f3
• Looks like mongodb team has jruby 10 on their internal roadmap Add support for jruby 10 mongodb/bson-ruby#353 (comment) probably best to give them some time to move on that.
