Send diagnostics log to host #633

@Ellebjerg

Description

@Ellebjerg

In the app there is a button to send the diagnostics log to developer. However, our Mergin Maps server is hosted by Septima here in Denmark. It would therefore be smart, if our logs were sent to them as most issues are likely to be due to the QGIS and data setup. If there is a technical issue with the app, they can raise the issue with you.

As it is now, our only way for us to share the log with Septima is thru screen shots. As the log can be quite extensive this is not optimal.

Indeed this would be a an interesting addition, however this would require a significant change to our infrastructure and the way we handle bug report.

This feature is currently not planned, but I let you contact sales@merginmaps.com if you are interested in sponsoring this.

We may be interested in sponsoring this development, but not alone. I will ask Septima and other of their customers using Mergin Maps whether they would be interested, but it would be nice to have an estimate of the development costs.

I suspect that it would be easier and cheaper to develop a possibility to access the log as a text file or similar on the phone and then manually email it to the relevant people. Would this be simpler to implement?

Hi @Ellebjerg Lars, yes, manually sharing them via email/other means would be possible too. What part of the diagnostic log are you specifically interested in?

Hi @tomasMizera
I don't know if I can point to a specific part of the log, but as problems in the app will usually be dataed to the current date I think, that the log for present date and perhaps the latest previous date for app usage would be relevant for troubleshooting.

Should I contact sales@merginmaps.com as suggested above to hear about the cost for developing this? I am not certain whether we will want to fund it. It will depend on the cost and perhaps whether other Danish users through Septima will be interested in participating.

I do not know much about app-development, but an even simpler solution may be to make the text in the log selectable on mobile devices, so that it can be copied and pasted into a mail. It will not be simpler for us users, but it may be simpler to implement.
