Configure site.config.ts with env variables

I've tried linking the config values to a .env file so I can deploy multiple sites from the same branch, but I keep getting this error
Error: Config error: missing required site config value "rootNotionPageId"

I'm not sure what this means and I've made sure I'm adding a string there, can anyone please help me?
