Feature: Distribute of files/folders in grid view like in Windows Explorer

What feature or improvement do you think would benefit Files?

In grid view, the elements are aligned to the left. For purely visual reasons, it would be practical to distribute the elements horizontally, as in Windows Explorer.

They're talking about the gap between the items changing so that the row will use the full window width rather than a fixed one that Files uses. If you put Windows File Explorer into a grid layout and change the window width you can see it.

I see, we had this behavior in the past but had to remove it when we added the List View layout. @marcelwgn might be able to fill in some more details.

We are using ListView and GridView for the layouts, this means however that we also rely on their layout logic. Unfortunately, all panels available for these two controls measure the first child and align the items based on that first size and dont take into account the available width. This might be possible with GridView in some way but I think it would require quite some effort. Alternatively, one could use ItemsRepeater however that raises other issues such as keybinding support, accessibility, focus management etc.
