Thanks for creating this issue! It looks like you may be using an old version of VS Code, the latest stable release is 1.101.0. Please try upgrading to the latest version and checking whether this issue remains.

I'm using the latest Code OSS from yay (EndeavourOS Linux) so not exactly sure if I can update in a reasonably not-annoying way (without having to build code from scratch) until arch/aur updates on their end

Using Code 1.101.1 on Arch, I am experiencing the exact same symptoms.

According to https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/code/-/issues/10#note_272438 the problem is with open-vsx.org.

After I changed from that to the Microsoft Marketplace, everything worked as expected.
