Description
Type: Feature Request
Summary:
Improve the MCP (Model Context Protocol) configuration UI in VS Code by adding detailed tool information on hover.
Current Behavior:
In the MCP configuration panel, VS Code displays the running status and action buttons for MCP servers. The tools section currently only shows the total number of available tools (e.g., "5 tools"). When hovering over this information, no additional details are provided about what specific tools are available.
Requested Enhancement:
Add a hover tooltip or popup that displays a list of available tools when the user hovers over the tools count indicator. This would provide users with immediate visibility into which specific tools are available from each MCP server without requiring additional navigation or configuration steps.
Benefits:
- Improved user experience and discoverability of available MCP tools
- Faster workflow for developers working with multiple MCP servers
- Better visibility into server capabilities at a glance
- Reduced need to navigate through additional menus to understand tool availability
Acceptance Criteria:
- Hovering over the tools count should display a tooltip/popup with the list of tool names
- The tooltip should be clearly formatted and easy to read
- The feature should work consistently across all MCP server configurations
- The tooltip should appear with reasonable delay and dismiss appropriately
