Reasons for the request

The existing package is not being used, it has a single release from 2018, and the associated repository seems to be a fork of Babel.

I plan to release an open-source tool in the following weeks. The package is on this repo. I am using the name elephant which is also taken in pypi by an active project, but will happily switch to squirrel as it's an even better name for my package.

My Pipy account is new but I'm one of the maintainers of https://github.com/tryolabs/norfair through my company's organization.

My package provides a disk cache to easily store the result of expensive functions, so I was looking for names of animals with good memory and squirrel would be a perfect fit.

The Owner was unreachable and did not get back to us regarding the status of their project despite multiple attempts. Therefore, we consider the project abandoned per PEP 541. I recommend that the PyPI Admins assign @javiber as the new owner of squirrel.

Sorry for long delay.
I know PyPi project name is an issue, I had to deal with that too...

Actually, I cannot login to PyPi because I lost a smartphone and I cannot figure out where are my recovery code. See #5426
